WOW!! Just watched the store of Austin Gutwein. If a 9 year old can do that ... how much more can we do?

We sponsor a little girl named Maria from World Vision. After hearing how World Vision changes the lives of the child but the entire family, I felt compelled to help.

We've looped the family in and consider Maria apart of our family. She shares a birthday with my son and hope to adopt another child soon. It's been a simple way for us to give and include our kids in the process. It's such a small sacrifice on my family's part - but it's a HUGE impact for this little girl and her family.

Since you are talking about World Changers - make sure to check out Austin Gutwein's story. He's the founder of Hoops of Hope - makes me cry EVERYTIME.

Until you decide on the right organization, consider donating food or money to your local food pantry. You'll be helping homeless and hungry children right here at home, and know for certain that 100% of your donations are going to a good cause.

Hey -- I've tried Compassion International, but was not impressed with it. I told them I wanted to sponsor someone and they never got back to me. It was just really unnecessarily difficult. I have sponsored a girl from Brazil through World Vision for the past five years. World Vision is good. They send sticker books and calendars for you to sign and write a note to your kid. I really like WV.

Oh and don't beat yourself up for not sponsoring sooner. I'm sure as a children's minister you're making a difference in children's lives; they just aren't thousands of miles away. :)

Sweet Staci!! Thanks for sharing ... I am definitely going to check out Makarios.

If anyone reading this wants more information on Makarios please visit http://makariosinternational.org/sponsorships/

I am also understanding that your can sponsor children through the following other organizations as well:

Compassion International - http://www.compassion.com
World Vision - http://www.worldvision.org/
Save the Children - http://www.savethechildren.org/
Child Fund - http://www.childfund.org/
Children International - http://www.children.org

Have any of you ever used any of these organizations to sponsor children around the globe?

I sponsor a little girl in the Dominican Republic through an organization called Makarios. I used to teach in the DR for 4 years and have a heart for the children there, so it's awesome to be able to support Regina in her schooling and in other ways. A couple times a year, I get a "thank you" from her ... a hand-print dipped in paint slapped onto a card with a picture of her! I love it!
